NEED FOR SPEED CARBON: OWN THE CITY

ll Genre: Racing ll Platform: NDS ll

Need for speed carbon is the 3rd instalment of the series to make it to the Nintendo Ds.
Need for speed is produced but EA (electronic arts), it is known for its unique gameplay, range of sensational cars, tracks, and also challenging AI.
Many of the previous games have disappointed, but early signs showed it would be a big leap forward. As most of you should have seen screenshots, the graphics seem to be the same as previous NFS Attempts, but it’s when you actually see it moving, it is quite amazing…..the frame rate has improved quite a bit. Making it a smother ride…..yet sadly, textures have not been fixed, personally, the game seemed quite better on a Phat Ds because of the screen brightness, textures were…how should I say.. Well it was darker, and added bit more of an effect…, yet on a DS lite, well, you might as well scream….it is not very pretty, yet I always go for the DS lite (Phat DS too big for my hands)

Ahhh music, don’t you love it, a great thing about it here is that you have quite a choice, you will not hear the same piece of audio for a while, but, unfortunately sound quality is poor, making you not really want to hear the actual “music” (if you would call it music) also, if you are a bad enough player to actually keep on crashing into traffic, the sad thing is, there will not be any sound effects that would actually blow you away and therefore so, you lose your incentive to actually do it, the only thing you will hear is a little nudge, also, when you actually crash, don’t expect anything like the game burnout, your car will just simply land on it’s side…and skid a lot the ground, no massive flips or anything…….that’s lagging……

Gameplay, well as always, gameplay is usually great for NFS, nice genuine racing feel, yet, strangely to me, some of the passion is gone, you don’t really feel that adrenalin rush as you would used to…still handling is nice and tight, drifting is good….(my fave)
Sadly a very disappointing thing is, the great DS touch screen is barely used, making no real unique gameplay element at all……but at least The AI is quite smart and challenging!

The game should last you quite a while, unless your that type of gamer who just wants to finish that race and does not care what position you come in…if so this game is not for you, but if not, you will fall in love with career mode, as usual NFS games, there are a lot of challenges with difficulties ranging from the easiest races to the hardest, don’t think this game will be a walk in the park……You shall strive to be the best….

Multiplayer…One of the most enjoyable things with games, don’t you just love getting you friends over you house and pit one against each other, ahh, it’s got it all…yet anyway….Multiplayer is actually pretty good…..pretty fun……I don’t have much to actually say about this certain part of the game because I have focused on other area’s…… yet I can tell you this…if you love NFS, and want the best experience…play with a friend which also has the game, it’s much better with multicard, more cars, tracks, etc, with single card, you get a choice of only one car and one track, awww sort of makes me cry…..

Any other parts I may add…..hmm well the only real thing I can think right at this moment is actually….when I was play multiplayer on it today(single card may I add) we had the one track, I have forgotten what the track was, anyway, there was a lake nearby, I had just used some NOS, then surprisingly my car when through the fence, and into the water…..my car just kept on falling, there was no surface…..now apparently it was some sort of glitch, I attempted to try if I could do it again….but……I could not, I guess it’s a 1 off thing..

Presentation
Everything is set out neatly, lots of customization, But bad cut scenes.            7.0

Graphics
What can I say, these graphics rival the PSP, they are fantastic! but the          9.0
textures are limited, especially on the cars themselves

Sound
Lots of great licensed music, sadly the quality of the audio is not great but       5.5
it feels like even when you crash, you don’t hear much, only a little nudge..
They could have put more effort there.

Gameplay
surprisingly very fun and enjoyable nice controlling and challenging AI            8.0
Opponents, yet with the DS version there is not really any unique gameplay
Element, touch screen is barely used……

Lasting Appeal
Career mode will have you going for quite a while,  if your the type of gamer    7.5
who will keep on trying to come first striving for the win, you will be satisfied…

Multiplayer
Multiplayer is quite enjoyable, multi card play will keep you going, single          7.0
card is still great, but there are not many options, only 1 car and 1 track

Overall   (not an average)                                                                                                             7.4

Final words, hmmm well I can say this, Best NFS yet on the NDS!

So yes, this is my first actual attempt a game review, hoped you enjoyed reading it, because I sure enjoyed writing it (and playing the game)….also if I get positive feedback on this I will rate “Mario hoops 3 on 3”! And if people continue reading my reviews I will also review other games on other platforms, such as the Wii, GBA, and GCN…. So cya for now! Big Grin

Hmm, interesting review...

Sad to hear no big crashes... I just played Burnout 3 on a friend PS2, so that's what's cool...
Textures? Ouch... That's a shame.
Great to see it doesn't lag, and that the frame rate's are great!
And bad music? Well, I seem to manage with some games, so I should be able to stand it...
Overall, a great review. *shakes hand*
Well give the graphics a break, it is based off a console ten years old now and in portable format.

I'm still sticking by my belief that there has been no good NFS game since Porche 2000.
i'm not going to say "ahh you gives a crap about the graphics just because it's based on an 10 year old console........i don't care if looks horrible in the year of 06/07" no it's a review i look at every section of the game...and observe it...then rate it...how it could be better as such....but still thank you both (chester and teal'c) you guys were the only ones who actually commented....thats nice....
Also, the physics are a little odd, I noticed. If you've seen any footage of it, sometimes you'll notice some things just don't work. On the ad they've been showing on TV it just seemed WAY too unrealistic to slide like they did. Furthermore, any sensible player would've slowed before that corner.
i have done something then watching footage, i played it.....but yes physics are odd sometimes.....but same with many other racing games.....i never really ever seem to slow down much before turns......if i do..the opponent goes ahead of me (as usual)........and ends up winning,i have got to keep my speed as high as possible without any accidents....=easy
Try doing that in real life. I doubt it will work so well. Toungue
True true true, but it's a game, why do you play a game? for entertainment!
Have as much fun as you can, but that will be hard if you buy a crap game....so you need to know whats good and bad, that why people do, REVIEWS! Toungue
They can give you advice......
Yes. But there is nothing like playing a game for yourself. For example, many people dissed Lego Star Wars and Star Wars: Battlefront 2. But I enjoy them immensely.
But we digress.
Yes opinions differ but hey......life goes on, and most people agree with general reviews from such places as ign...and gamspot, but just becuase i'm 13, thats does not effect how much i love games and how hard core i am.....i am just like other gaming fanatics.....
p.s Lego star wars pwned
