Ah Game & Watch, good ol' days those were. If you haven't noticed, each "new" design of Gameboy's is loosely based on the predecessor.
The original Gameboy was a huge hulking thing. Then the Pocket was slimmed down. It took tripple A batteries rather than 6 double As. Then there was the Colour, slightly larger than the pocket but almost the same design.
Flip the Colour around and you have the rough design of the Advance which, IIRC, was designed for easier to holdness. You also have the design of the Sega Gamegear which was done years before.
Unfortunately at the SP this was ruined. The SP appeared to fold up for mobility like the Game & Watch. It also used a backlight, which, the Gamegear also had. The backlight is probably the smartest thing Nintendo's ever done.
Nintendo seemed to have been stoned when they thought of Gameboy Micro. Just what we need. Something that can get lost EASILY, too small to see a thing, let alone hold.
Then we get to the Nintendo DS. Although touchscreens were a good idea they have been used for years (Not on gaming devices though). I reckon it was kinda a good idea to try and re-emulate the Nintendo 64. Who knows? Maybe they might add in AV support to get on your TV and N64 controller support.
I've seen a few demo NDS and they had horrible scratches on their touchscreen. So I guess the folding up is a must. Imagine if I still used my old HP 320 LX and I had an NDS. One in each pocket.

Actually, the handheld HP might weigh more.

Nintendo, the way I understand it, are AGAIN trying to recreate their own NDS to be "lighter" but, if I'm correct, is more expensive with hardly any new features.
Any how, I hope that makes sense.
