I'm currently in the stage of a bulletin board system development. This is basically something I should code for myself, but I thought that I can't really code things without prior support from users that can program too in certain languages and want to show to the world that they can contribute to open source.

Paraboards(Project Parasol) is going to be a UNIQUE bulletin board, that's being written in both of my favorite languages. Python and PHP. In addition the database type support will be both PostgreSQL and mySQL. This bulletin board will also have a design that's completely irrelevant with other types of generic bulletin boards that have made no success.

I'm already in the basic PHP knowledge stage. Something I would really require is a user who is experienced in mySQL database programming and data storage via mySQL. If you're up to volunteer for such a project, just post here.

What we have
Design (Faltzer & Haunter Master)
Bug Reporters (Not enough)
Inspection (Not enough)

What we need
Bug Reporter (I really would love this. The most important feature we require for this project.)
mySQL Coder (Advanced or Basic. No beginner)
Basic Coder (No Beginner knowledge with PHP, please. Basics are fine.)

I'm thinking up more of what I need. When I need to remember, I always forget. So watch out for this list, as I might update to a position you're a god at. If you want, you can always ask on what we need help on.

Current Helpers
Faltzer - Ruby coder and director
BrandMan211 - Ideas and Ruby coder
Rindiny - Bug Reporting, and the inspector.
Haunter Master - Design
crudpuppet - AJAX Scripter
Koroku - Bug reporting

Thanks for your support, and I hope we can make this a great open source project.

CURRENT PROGRESS

04/29/07: COMPLETELY PLAIN DESIGN WILL BE USED UNTIL BASIC FUNCTIONALITY IS ADDED. NEED HELP WITH PHP SESSIONS THOUGH. >_<
Well I'll help you in anyway I can.
I don't know too much PHP and absolutely no Phython.
But I can do bug reporting and stuff.
I know MySQL, but not PostgreSQL.

Like, I've built simple MySQL stuff. I know how it works. But at the moment I'm trying to get my PokeDex script started >.<;

I'd like to beta-test though.
I can help in PHP and MySQL. And, funny thing is, I was about to start on my own Forum software, too.
@Pochama: Sure thing, bug reporting it is.

@PJN: That's great. I don't want to focus on PostgreSQL too much because it's less likely to be used.

@LJ: You're welcome to be part of the development team. This is an open source project, and it's likely to be helped out by user contributions such as yours. Smile;
How are you going to make it in python? Python isn't completely webbased (you could do that, but there are a bunch of better web programming languages)

I could help you with everything (I know php very well, and I also know python very well.)

If you want code samples. just ask.

I also know sql, I'm good with photoshop, and I know html, css, javascript, and I'd be glad to help.
I just found out it isn't very good for web applications. So I'm changing that to Ruby. What a disappointment. Do you know any Ruby to begin with, crudpuppet? I'll have to admit I can't do all of this by myself.
Why do you need more than one language? Isn't php enough?

And do you have aim? It would make contact a lot easier.

Also, I could help you make it with ajax, which every good forum system is beginning to use, so yea.
I'm getting off Python. And the reason I'm using more than one language is really to give the internet a break from the same boring language every day users see over the internet. To make a difference. And to give other great languages a chance to stand out in the spotlight. And my AIM is in my profile.
The only reason php is the 'same boring language' is because it's one of the most powerful languages out there. Ruby is powerful, but php can do more. The point of a project like this isn't to get a particular language popular (unless it's a contest, but whatever) but rather to get it to work and get the job done. If you want to continue using ruby, be my guest, but I still say php is better.

Also, on another note, more people know php, so if you were to finish a first release, more people would be able to help, more people would be able to debug, and overall help fix and create more features. Open source works much better when it's a language that more people actually use.
