Hey everyone. Here I think I'll post quick sort of guides that don't deserve a whole thread to themselves. Today, how to get Wild, Held Items easily.
If you want a Dragon Scale or tons of Heart Scales, or even Shards to trade for Stones, this is how!
1) Get a Nincada/Butterfree/Yanma or something with the Compoundeyes ability (this MUST be on Emerald or DP).
2) Make it hold the Smoke Ball, if you don't have it, do the Trick House loads on Emerald until you do or get it on DP (I don't know how yet, I don't have it)!
3) Then get something else with Thief, I recommend a Kecleon because it learns it naturally, but you can teach it or also get a Lombre to learn it (naturally learnt, I wouldn't waste the TM unless you're confident about what you waste it on). Kecleon is also good because of it's ability to survive against weaker wilds. I'd suggest your Thiefer is fairly quick OR high levelled (ensuring better speed), so it can run away. This will be explained later.
4) Have the Nincada/etc lead your party. The theory states that Compoundeyes makes it twice as likely that your opponent is holding an item. Go and fish for Horsea for example (or Bagon), now rather than 1 in 20 chance of it having the Dragon Scale, it's now a measly 1 in 10! This is the same for Shards or even Tiny Mushrooms from a Paras (actually making Tiny Mushrooms guaranteed technically)
5) You might have to search a lot to get Horseas, but if you don't find Horsea, just run, even if you Compoundeyes dude(tte) is low levelled, it can escape with the Smoke Ball! SO even if you what you're searching for isn't particularly common, you can just escape.
6) Once you do find Horsea/Bagon/whatever, switch to Kecleon/etc and then use Thief, making sure your 'Thiefer' doesn't already hold an item. But use Thief, if you get nothing, then run and run around in grass or the sea for whatever. And pretty soon, you should get a Dragon Scale after using Thief.
7) And you can do this whilst Diving to get Shards and then ultimately stones. Be sure to take the item off afterwards, because you can then get more of the item!
I hope this helps you all find rare treasures attached to Pokémon, such as the infamous Lucky Egg!!
Yeah, I like Stealing items with a Linoone! You can get items from pickup and steal items from pokemon! ^_^ Great guide!
PickUp is useful too and funnily enough, it's what my next guide is about:
Have you ever wanted more Earthquake, a few good Proteins and basically a lot of good stuff but for free? There is a long but worthwhile plan! If you have lots of Pokémon Games and don't use Rare Candies, then here's what you can do!
- Get a Linoone with the PickUp ability (I'd recommend getting one from the 3rd Gen and keeping it there until I say move it)
- Level it up lots, at a lower level, it's easier to raise up. A good idea would be to teach or breed Protect onto it, then go onto Pokémon XD or Colosseum with it holding a Lucky Egg (if you have one, if not, use EXP Share) and then get something with Earthquake, to wipe out everything whilst Linoone Protects. If you can't do the XD or Col thing, training regularly is fine. But start low and go up
- Count up how many Rare Candies you have between games, this obviously helps if you have more than 1 GBA so you can trade and if you have several games, like if you get both FireRed AND LeafGreen. If you have 30 rare candies between games, raise Linoone up to 70 and then trade it to other games, level it up and trade around loads. If you have 40, raise it to 60, the point is to take however many Rare Candies you have from 100.
- If you can't trade, just get a Linoone up lots and lots, using lots of battles and any Rare Candies it's PickUp can get is useful. If doing THIS style, don't use Rare Candies until you have enough to get it up to 100.
- Long story short, between Levels 91-100, it should be able to Pick Up an Earthquake TM and loads of other cool stuff, there's a 1 in 100 chance of Earthquake and Leftovers each, but you can also pick up decent items from Emerald or on DP. Why get it to 100? Because there are rumours it doesn't work unless you're 100, better safe than sorry.
- The idea is to have your Linoone beat a Wild Opponent or just have it in your party whilst someone else does. After the battle, check to see if it's holding an item. Obviously don't make it hold any items whilst doing this.
- Once you've got it to the right level, get it onto your DS Game, with it on there, you can find loads more Rare Candies, Revives, Dusk Stones, Shiny Stones, Dawn Stones, Full Restores, Max Revives & Max Elixirs, PP Ups and Leftovers, as well as Earthquake. Whilst running into battles for you to find Earthquake, it's a great oppurtunity to hunt for shinies too. Because you're finding a lot of wild Pokémon AND also concentrating on getting decent items, your mind is taken off both tasks almost. I find a Shiny whilst doing this PickUp method and have since found loads of Hyper Potions, a few Earthquakes and Leftovers! On DP, the prize list looks far better, so I look forward to doing this technique there.
- You can also use other things with PickUp, such as Phanpy, but more popular choices alongside Linoone are Pachirisu and Ambipom for DP!
So I hope that helps, yes, it's a tad obvious, but I never use Rare Candies and this is a great chance to. I hope to be able to get enough to do it again some day!
Could I put up a guide too? I have a few I've made previously for other websites/forums.
It depends on what kind of guides. PM them to me and then I'll put them up saying you did them.
Thx for the guide! I'll level up my Linoone now! =D
You can shorten the time it takes to get those things. I took my Butterfree taught it thief and did that. It shortens the time you waste swiching out to a different Pokemon.
Easiest way to level up your Linoone:
Put two of them on RSE Daycare, grab an Acro Bike, face a sandslide (those things you need a Mach Bike to go up), use some heavy stuff to press the Up button on the D-Pad of the GBA/DS, connect it to the recharger thing, go to sleep/school/play/fap/Wii/die and let it there for about two days.
Then go check, and if they're lvl 92 or more, take them. If not, repeat.

Good point, although if Butterfree can't escape, you still have to switch just to escape, so it'd need to be a high level.

Oh yeah, that's a good point, but make sure you have loads of money before hand, though it doesn't actually cost that much, if you had a 2 Zigzagoon and just chucked that in daycare, it would be 98 X 100 + 100 = 9900 Pokedollars. And make sure you don't intend to battle it either because it'll have no EVs gained.
There is also some place in DP too isn't there I heard of, where you keep getting chucked back into a wall and the same principles lie there. A quick training tip today I think, the best place to level up people in my opinion.
Pokémon XD in my opinion is the best place to level up. Why? Because between trading over insreases your experience gain by 1.5. But why XD, there are 3 main reasons, 1) Double Battles, 2) You get Pokémon up to level 70 and 3) You can get a free Lucky Egg. So let me elaborate:
1) Double Battles - This is brilliant, the Double Battle system allows you to take part and this leads to great combos such as: Levitate/Protect/Detect and Earthquake. Or a Ghost type/Protector and Explosion. They're faster to get quick KOs and experience than single battle switching. This also means you face more Pokémon as well.
2) High Levels - The Pokémon here go up to 70 and you have 3 areas from around 57 plus, this is better than the RSE Elite 4 and you have 30 of them. People may argue and say LGFR has better training with the second Elite 4, but you have constant credits or turning off, they have tons of Potions and you only get 26 Pokémon, here you can get significantly more at 58 plus, which is very effective nonetheless.
3) Lucky Egg - This free item after doing the first round of Orre Colosseum increases experience by 1.5 (not by 2, by 1.5) and combined with a trade onto XD, you're talking about 2.25 times more Experience than the normal, and in short making training capable in 4/9 the time. This item is extremely rare, so if you think you're getting one otherwise, you can pretty much forget it. You can use the experience share, but the Lucky Egg is actually more beneficial for your partner and can be traded across for individual battles, where it prevails more. Think about 2 non traded Pokémon, let's say Salamence and Dragonite. If there was 1000 points between them, and Salamence was holding each item, you'd get this:
+ Salamence@ Experience Share = 750 & Dragonite = 250.
+ Salamence@ Lucky Egg = 750 & Dragonite = 500.
If you have Lv100s, then don't worry about the Lucky Egg, but it's useful for single battles on other games as mentioned.
So the idea is to send both Pokémon out, your traded weak one and strong one, to have the little one protected somehow and the big one sweep through ina way that hits both opponents but not your weak partner. This method can get you up 60 levels (from about Lv20) in 2 hours or so, I use it frequently and it's VERY effective.
So there you go!
Yeah, i wanted to do that, but I don't have the connector that lets me transfer my GBA pokemon over!

But just wanted to let you know the easiest way to gain levels in XD is to go to the Cipher Lab. The 6 Hexagon brothers will be there with level 50's. When you exit an come back, they'll battle you again! Easy exp.! There's also Mt. Battle, but... so yeah, maybe you could add that to your guide, like the easiest way to level up your pokemon. =D
