I swear, watching the older episodes makes me almost hate Ash for getting rid of his amazing Pokemon.

Case 1: Primeape: strong fighting type, hard to beat, Ash lets it go train with some random guy.

Case 2: Haunter: I know that this technically wasn't his, but he should've kept it for a little longer. I've noticed that the main characters hardly ever use Psychic, Ghost, or Dark types.

Case 3: Pidgeot: Ash hardly ever uses Pidgeotto except to blow away Smokescreens, and when it finally evolves, he releases it. Bah.

Case 4: Charizard: Do I even need to elaborate on this?

I could go on, but I think I've made my point clear. I know Ash had "reasons" for releasing them, but I still think he needs to hold onto his powerful Pokemon better.
It's might be something to do with the fact that each region he starts over and either gets rid of all his old Pokemon [Pidgeot, Charizard, Squirtle] or leaves them with Prof. Oak [Bulbasaur, Johto starters, etc.], and that he can only carry around 6 Pokemon at any time anyway. I think it would be great if he kept all his Pokemon and switched them around all the time, but I guess the producers want to show off the newest Pokemon instead of having Ash always using old ones, not to mention he'd wipe the floor with everyone if he used his first and strongest Pokemon all the time.

As for Haunter and Primeape, I guess Haunter could have stayed for a bit, but then again, Ash didn't seem to be able to control it, and we didn't need another Charizard. Same with Primeape, if it got angry a lot like it would be its nature to do so.
That and he's a little dense, I mean, Pikachu is his strongest, but how he battles, he battles like a Trainer who never had a battle, it's time they got rid of him, or made him actually use his head more than he does
seriously hes so dumb releasing great pkmn just so he can make room for weak ones i know it sounds bad but i hate to see him lose all the time he sucks cause he dosent keep his stronger ones he relies on power not smarts cause he dosent have any >>.
Yeah, Ash uses really bad judgment in a lot of battles. (i.e: Charizard against Poliwrath?)
Or Pikachu against Onix ?
Yeah...but that was because he started/captured Pokemon that were all weak against Rock, he didn't really have a choice there.
No, I was talking about the Oreburgh Gym, he still uses Thunderbolt, he's losing his mind...
Agreed.

Ash: THUNDERBOLT PIKACHU!
Pikachu: *thunderbolts*
Onix: *unaffected*
Pikachu: Erp...
Onix: *evil grin*
Pikachu: 0.0 *gets pwned*

Okay, so maybe it didn't happen like that, but still. I really think they should scrap the old characters and start all new.
From watching his battling techniques, I don't think the Anime Ash would've really made it very far in the actual games.

And shouldn't Pikachu be around level 100 by now? And its getting beaten by a Onix in the teens?
