Curious about what our MMC members have decided about Nintendo's latest console. I think there are a lot of good reasons for people to wait, not least of all because of the price, but the jump in specs and additional features also make it an exciting release. The original Switch is already 8 years old (maybe I'm getting old but it doesn't feel like it's already been eight years, haha) so many people have been waiting for its successor for awhile.

Personally, I did end up pre-ordering because I want to be able to cover any Pokémon news for my website. If I wasn't running PokéJungle, I don't know if I would have picked it up immediately. I actually waited to buy the original Switch until LGPE was announced.

There's also the downside of pre-ordering that you get the only launch color available and, based on historical trend, we'll probably see a Pokémon version released at some point.

probably waiting on it, it'd be neat if i did get one (especially as someone who grabbed the og switch at launch, definitely agree it doesn't feel like it's been that long lol) but haven't really had the same hype honestly and passed even trying on the store pre-orders-
might go for it if my priority thing works for the my nintendo store and i get the email but even then that's a big maybe gfjkdlgf, been on a big indie game kick too and don't really know if any of em would even benefit from the new specs much either lol (outside of maybe NOISZ, know that one can chug a bit in a couple spots on the og switch)

forgot a sentence^^

My dad managed to preorder, so I am getting his.

This probably sounds like a poor reason to most people, but I just love Nintendo so much I have to have the console day one. :)

  • 2 weeks later...

I have been a huge fan of Nintendo for as long as I can remember, but I am very much on the fence about the Switch 2.

I felt the same way about the original Nintendo Switch, but I was invited to go to the UK premiere in 2017, and went hands on with lots of games. Because of this, I became more convinced that it would be a console i'd love. I did sell a lot of old games and items I wasn't using to justify it though, and in the eight years since it launched, I have enjoyed the library of games i've built up.

But the Switch 2, despite its impressive specs and titles, hasn't won me over. I was fortunate enough to secure one though the Nintendo store, but even now with just a few weeks until launch, i'm tempted to cancel my order. The console itself isn't exactly the issue, I think the £395 price tag (£429.99 with Mario Kart World) is about what I expected. My issue is the price of physical games, which I opt for in most circumstances, being significantly higher. Digital is also more expensive, but cheaper than physical, which makes me think that physical games will be abandoned entirely. I am not a fan of this future, and would rather step off the Nintendo train once and for all.

Right now there's enough reasons for me to buy one, but I very much doubt it will get the same level of play as the Switch did, and nowhere near what the GameCube and Wii did for me back in the day

I did not pre-order. Switch 2 raises too many doubts. Instead, I bought a Switch Lite and games from a pawn shop for next to nothing. Legends: Z-A will still be on the Switch, so I'll play it on it, and when something is known about the 10th generation, I'll think about whether to buy a Switch 2.

Just curious what you are doubtful about. :)

Would love to hear why people are waiting out.
