Our kitchen is original to a late-1990s build, and the recirculating hood over the electric range has gotten loud enough that I can hear it from the hallway. I want to replace it with something quieter and easier to clean, but the cabinet above the stove is shallow and the ducting is the flat rectangle type that vents straight out the back wall.
I have been reading about 2026 under cabinet range hoods online, mostly comparing noise ratings and filter styles. The depth seems to matter more than I expected, since a deeper unit would stick out past the cabinet edge and I am not sure that looks right in a small galley layout.
Has anyone here dealt with a similar shallow cabinet and rear vent setup? Did you match the old hood's depth or go slightly larger, and was the noise difference noticeable? I would rather hear from people who have actually done the swap than guess from spec sheets.
