There's one pokemon I can think of whose color has been very inconsistent over the years: bulbasaur.

He's blue. . .he's green. . .he's back to blue. . oh wait he's green again. In Go he's VERY green and could be mistaken for being shiny. I am really annoyed because he looks soooo much better with the bluer tone.

It is really interesting the color 'evolution' we've seen with Bulbasaur. I don't feel too strongly about that topic BUT I do feel strongly about the lack of vibrancy on its 3D model (and 90% of all 3D models).

Completely agree!

I miss blue Bulbasaur too, but actually... The older game sprites were always green until generation 3, then they went more dark green, then we got more washed out green after gen 6 again.

FireRed/LeafGreen's sprite was always a good one.

That's an interesting piece of history, I didn't know that! :)

That sprite is iconic

I read online that Bulbasaur was "blue" in the first anime episodes, but then they decided to make it green to match its type (Grass) and species (frog) 🐸

It's also not the only one to undergo such changes: for example, consider Pikachu's body, which changed from chubby to slim, or Jigglypuff's colour, which shifted from shocking pink to a lighter tone (while being almost white in the first anime episodes)!

I'm writing a little update because, while I was looking for some sprites, I noticed something I had never realised before: Bulbasaur has always been smiling, but then it stopped from generation 6 onwards.

MAKE BULBASAUR HAPPY AGAIN.
